Verna Joline Kincaid (known as Joline), was born October 8, 1928, in Marysville, Iowa
to George and Velta Whitlatch Kincaid. She grew up with two brothers: Jerry and
Kermit. Joline attended school at Marysville. Joline was a strong-willed young lady and
a little bit rebellious, something she passed along to her children and grandchildren.
She would hitchhike with her brothers and friends to Knoxville for something to do.
Joline fell in love with Dewey A. Heaberlin and the two were married in 1945. Their car
broke down after the wedding, so they hitchhiked to their honeymoon destination. They
were blessed with three children: Alvin, Danny, and Ragina. Dewey served during WWII,
he and Joline made sure their children were raised knowing they were loved, and that
they knew Jesus Christ.
Joline’s focus in life was raising her children. She was a great cook and only very
recently let out the secret ingredient to her amazing pie crusts (only certain family
knows). She had an open door policy at her home; everyone was welcome and there
was always plenty to eat, and the coffee was always on. Joline always had a playful and
adventurous spirit. Grandchildren and great grandchildren were treasured, and she
loved to play with them. You might find her playing on the floor with them or even kicking
a soccer ball. She was bold, independent and a little sassy, but always giving and
welcoming to old and new friends alike.
Preceding Joline in death was her parents: George & Velta Kincaid; husbands: Dewey
Heaberlin in 1995 and Richard “Buster” Jones in 2000; children: Alvin (Diane) Heaberlin
in 2006 and Ragina Ostendorf in 2024; daughter-in-law, Judy Heaberlin; and siblings:
Jerry Kincaid and Kermit Kincaid.
Joline will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. She is survived by her son,
Danny Heaberlin; son-in-law, Jerry Ostendorf; grandchildren: Todd (Kelly) Heaberlin,
Jeremy (Tiffani) Heaberlin, Shawn (Tracy) Heaberlin, Chris (Erin) Heaberlin, Michelle
Heaberlin, Matt (Steph) Oetker, Chelsey (Tanner) Klinge, Julie (Josh Miille) Ostendorf,
and Morgan (Brandon Beattie) Ostendorf; 14 great grandchildren; many great great
grandchildren; and countless relatives and friends.
