John David Wallace was born on June 9, 1945, to Russell and Inez (Wahe) Wallace in
Ames, Iowa. Growing up, Dave did a lot of moving around in the Marion County area
including Attica and Knoxville. In 1963, Dave joined the Army and was primarily
stationed in Germany; he was honorably discharged in 1969. He enjoyed telling stories
of his service time, especially about the time he rolled an Army Mail Jeep in Germany.
Little did Dave know, the love of his life was a family friend. On June 25, 1976, the
couple was married at Rosemount and built a wonderful life together.
To stay busy, Dave worked as a handyman and in construction throughout the years.
Being a homebody, Dave liked being and working close to home any way he could.
Dave enjoyed the simple things in life such as filling out crossword puzzles, watching
crime, nature or western shows and movies. When his grandkids come over, he would
love to just watch them play and hang out. He was always quick with a joke and loved
telling stories to those around him.
On December 3, 2025, Dave sadly passed away surrounded by his family at Mercy
Hospital. He is preceded in death by his parents, Russell and Inez Wallace, two
brothers, Ron and Duane and a sister, Mary Tancrede.
Dave is survived by his wife of 49 years, Carol, their sons, Eric (Brenda) Wallace and
Bryan (Kayla) Wallace; five grandchildren: Cheyenne, Spencer, Cailey, Kiara and
Harper; brother, Meredith Wallace; and many nieces, nephews and extended family and
friends.
