Caldwell Park Ice Arena grand opening Jan. 10
January 05, 2026
The Caldwell Park Ice Arena, featuring a new ice chiller, is now open in Pella, marking an exciting new chapter for the community. Donors, community members, and ice-skating enthusiasts are invited to join Spirit of Pella and the City of Pella in celebrating this milestone on Saturday, January 10, from 1-5 p.m. at the Caldwell Park Shelter House.
“From the beginning, our goal was to build on what our community already had by transforming the Caldwell Park ice rink into a reliable, year-round destination,” said Christi Vander Voort, president of Spirit of Pella. “Through creativity, determination, and the remarkable generosity of local foundations, businesses, and individuals, this vision became a reality. We are very grateful to everyone who recognized the opportunity to create an exciting new gathering place for our community.”
“We want to thank Spirit of Pella, and particularly Bob Zylstra, for spearheading this effort,” said Pella Mayor Don DeWaard. “The installation of the new chiller will enhance Pella’s robust youth athletic programs, offer new opportunities like youth hockey, and benefit church groups, young professionals, and winter sports enthusiasts. Additionally, the rink has the potential to attract visitors from the region, boosting local businesses and supporting Pella as a winter destination.”
Spirit of Pella invites everyone to celebrate this milestone. The Pella Ice Sports Association will host a hockey demonstration, and community members are invited to free skate and join a pick-up hockey game. Adjustable youth ice skates, sizes junior through eight, will be available for rent on-site for this special event, and Kasswagen will provide hot food and beverages.
