Alyce grew up in Lovilia where she lived until she graduated in 1948. She then moved to the Quad Cities where she worked as a bookkeeper in a local appliance store. She went on to be employed at Iowa-Illinois Gas & Electric Co. in Davenport for four years. Alyce married Russell Heeter in 1952 and began working with her husband in Heeter’s family restaurant business. They eventually divorced and she married Stanley Oak on December 31, 1968, in Edgington, Illinois. They resided in Bettendorf, Iowa, the remainder of their life together. Alyce enjoyed cooking and baking and fondly recalled making several batches of cookies for Stan to share with his students. She also loved to bake and deliver Christmas goodies to her family, friends, and neighbors. Stan and Ayce enjoyed traveling camping and visiting many destinations all over the United States. The highlight of their year was camping at the Iowa State Fair for the week. They also enjoyed family gatherings, spending time with friends and neighbors, having potlucks, playing cards, and sharing stories. Alyce never had children but enjoyed the company of several dogs; Stormy, Sparky, Rhea, and Toby, whom she treated like her kids. Stanley passed away in 2012, and Alyce remained in Bettendorf until she sold her house and moved to Knoxville, Iowa to be closer to her remaining family. She lived in an apartment at the Lodge of Westridge for three years and then moved to Edencrest assisted living in Norwalk, Iowa where she remained until her passing. She made many new friends and enjoyed participating in the activities and outings at Edencrest. Alyce was good natured, loved to joke and was always good for a laugh. She was very entertaining, and we will miss her smiling face, wit, and stories. Alyce is survived by her nephew, Rusty Barnes and wife Kristy of Carlisle, Iowa.
