Steven R. Hopkins passed away suddenly at his home on the farm near Knoxville on
February 23, 2026. He was born May 29, 1960, in Bloomfield, Iowa, to Paul and Carolyn
Hopkins and graduated from Bloomfield High School with the Class of 1978. On
September 17, 1988, he married his longtime friend and soulmate, Cynthia Funk. She
may have played hard to get in the beginning, but Dad was determined, and in time he
won her heart.
Together they built a life centered on family and were blessed with four children: Tiffany,
Emily, Logan, and Kateland. Cynthia passed away in 2013, and he missed her deeply
every day after.
Dad loved the farm and the simple, honest work that came with it. He enjoyed tinkering
with old John Deere tractors and could often be found searching for special antiques at
flea markets and auctions. Some of his favorite moments were the quiet ones — sitting
on the porch at the end of the day and watching the sunset over the land he loved.
He had a strong work ethic and a determination that defined his life. Even with cerebral
palsy, Dad never slowed down and often worked multiple jobs while caring for the farm.
Over the years he worked in the laundry at the Knoxville Veterans Home, for the
Budweiser distributor, at McDonald’s, and in recent years he especially enjoyed driving
the Amish. No matter the job, he took pride in doing it well and doing it faithfully.
Dad had a wonderful sense of humor — the kind that made people smile without ever
being unkind. His dad jokes and big belly laugh were part of who he was, and he never
missed a chance to lighten the moment. He had a special love for his Mountain Dew,
and when Mom would tell him he needed to cut back, he would grin and say he’d only
had six that day — leaving out the detail that they were the tall cans. That was Dad —
honest, funny, and just a little bit ornery in the best way.
More than anything, Dad loved his family. He treasured time spent together and took
special joy in his grandchildren, who brought him endless pride and happiness. He
showed his love in steady ways — through hard work, quiet support, and always being
there when we needed him.
Steve will be greatly missed by his father, Paul Hopkins; his children: Tiffany (Scott) Pitt,
Emily Hopkins, and Logan Hopkins; his grandchildren: Ross Foltz and Riley Jeanes; his
siblings: Curt (Wendy) Hopkins and Marcia (Shane) Cox; along with many nieces,
nephews, relatives, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Cynthia in 2013; his infant daughter, Kateland
Hopkins; and his mother, Carolyn Hopkins.
Dad’s life was one of perseverance, laughter, and love. He taught us the value of hard
work, the importance of family, and how to find humor in everyday moments. His stories,
his laugh, and the steady presence he gave us will be missed more than words can say.
