Mary Brooks

Mary Brooks, 77, of Knoxville, passed away Friday, April 3, 2026. Honoring her wishes,
no services are planned. Pierschbacher Funeral Home in Knoxville is handling Mary’s
arrangements.
Mary Ann Garland was raised in Oskaloosa, her parents were Art and Martha Garland.
She grew up surrounded by family and small-town values that stayed with her
throughout her life. She graduated from Oskaloosa High School with the Class of 1967.
On June 9, 1983, Mary was united in marriage to the love of her life, Dennis Brooks,
beginning a partnership that would span over four decades.
Together, Mary and Dennis built their life first in Oskaloosa before moving to Iowa Falls,
where Mary followed a calling to care for others. She trained to become a Registered
Nurse, dedicating many years to helping those in need with compassion and kindness;
bringing comfort to so many.
In 2001, Mary and Dennis returned to southern Iowa, settling in Knoxville to be closer to
the people who meant the most to her—her family. Being near her grandchildren
brought her great joy, and she treasured every opportunity to attend their activities,
cheer them on, and spend time together. Those moments were among her most
cherished.
When she found a quiet moment, Mary enjoyed being outdoors, especially fishing at the
lake. It was a simple pleasure that gave her peace.
Above all, Mary will be remembered for her love of family, her caring heart, and the
gentle way she lived her life.
