Dean A. Lewin was born September 24, 1934, to Joe and Myrtle Wells Lewin in
Moulton, Iowa where he was raised. He graduated from Moulton High School with the
Class of 1953.
He served in the United States Air Force for four years, after fudging his age to get in
the service early. He worked as a jet mechanic on the B49’s. After returning home he
married the love of his life, Jennie Lois Selvy, on August 3, 1957, in Bloomfield, Iowa.
The couple lived in Des Moines and New Orleans before moving to Knoxville in 1960.
Dean worked at the Des Moines Post Office and then at the Knoxville VA in the
engineering department, beginning in 1960 where he worked for 40 years. After retiring
he enjoyed driving the bus for Knoxville community Schools for 10 years.
Dean had a great sense of humor, often setting the fire alarm off to wake Rodney up,
telling him he was going to sleep his life away. He enjoyed collecting coins and working
with his hands. He was a great carpenter and had remodeled many homes in Knoxville.
He worked for Marvin Kain fixing houses to sell. In later years he crafted many
birdhouses, and watched the wrens, bluebirds, and hummingbirds.
Dean loved his dogs. He taught Smoky how to chase the grandkids and pull off their
white socks, fun for all involved! And he loved his dog Missy, who just passed away in
January. His greatest joy was spending time with his family, especially the grandchildren
and great grandchildren. Dean’s faith was important to him, and he was a member of
the Celebrate Church in Knoxville.
Dean is survived by his children: Rodney (Karen) Lewin and Rhonda Lewin;
grandchildren: Dean (Sara) Lewin, Erin (Daniel) Prevo, Ashley (Cory) Remster, and Kali
(Andrea) Davis; Great grandchildren: Trenton Allen, Brooke (Ethan) Childress, Kenna
Lewin, Bella Lewin, Oliver Allen, Jaxson Prevo, Mayiah Kay Davis, DJ Davis, and Cielo
Rose Davis; a great great granddaughter Emerson Childress; along with many nieces,
nephews, relatives, and friends.
Preceded in death by his Parents, Joe & Myrtle Lewin: wife, Lois Lewin; infant son,
