Barbara J. Bowers

Barbara J. Bowers, 85, of Pleasantville, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 28,
2026, at the Westview Care Center where she had been a resident for the past two
years. Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 2nd , at 2:00 p.m. at the Pierschbacher
Funeral Home in Knoxville. Family will receive friends following the service over
refreshments at the funeral home. Interment will be at the Swan Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Westview Care Center or the
Pleasantville EMT.
Barbara Bowers was born May 19, 1941, at home northeast of Pleasantville, to Vernie
and Alice Bowers. She was the oldest of five children, which kind of made her the boss.
She attended school at Beech from kindergarten through nineth grade and after the
schools merged, she graduated from Pleasantville High School in 1959. She always
enjoyed her Beech roots and was very active in helping organize Beech Alumni Events.
After high school she graduated from AIB in Des Moines she soon found work and
ended up working with Ford Motor Credit in Des Moines for 38 years. She always
enjoyed the friendships made with her work friends.
All throughout her life she enjoyed country music. She belonged to a record club of
some kind or another since high school, she has procured quite the collection of
records, cassettes and CDs of country music. She also enjoyed traveling often to
Nashville to see the sights and listen to the music. She traveled all over the United
States and parts of Europe making many friends along the way. Barbara loved quilting,
especially making many many quilts. She enjoyed making pretty things and sharing
them with those she loved.
When she bowled, everyone stopped to watch. She loved it and was an award-winning
bowler and bowled in tournaments all over the states. Another past time was shopping –
not only shopping but buying. She material for quilting projects for the next twenty years
and enough scrapbooking supplies to have her own YouTube show.
She loved her family, and although she was the boss and maybe a little stubborn, she
would do anything for her siblings and nieces and nephews. She looked forward to the
family gatherings and getting everyone together.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents: Vernie and Alice Bowers; and brother,
Dick Bowers. She will be greatly missed by her siblings: Judy (Glenn) Moon, Bob
(Dianna) Bowers, and Steve (Sheila) Bowers; along with many nieces, nephews,
relatives and friends.
