Subject commits suicide at Marion County Sheriff's Office

On the morning of July 19, 2026, at approximately 7:40 a.m. a vehicle entered the Marion County Sheriff’s office parking lot located at 211 North Godfrey Lane in Knoxville and stopped by a fuel tank on the property. 
The sole occupant of the vehicle exited, produced a firearm, and shot himself.   Marion County Sheriff’s Office staff notified the communication center; the communication center paged rescue and deputies to assist.  Jail staff immediately responded and located the male.  
Life saving measures were initiated and provided until paramedics arrived and took over.  The male was airlifted to Des Moines.   
This incident is under investigation by the Marion County Sheriff’s Office and Knoxville Police Department.  The man’s name will not be released until family members are notified.  There will be no further information released at this time.
