Knoxville Hospital & Clinics Strengthens Knoxville Economy Through Jobs and Community Investment

Across Iowa, hospitals are doing far more than treating patients. They are also serving as major employers, community partners, and economic anchors, according to the Iowa Hospital Association’s latest economic impact and community benefits report.

 

In Knoxville, Knoxville Hospital & Clinics is a significant part of that economic picture.

 

According to newly released data from the Iowa Hospital Association’s annual economic impact report, Knoxville Hospital & Clinics contributed more than $1.9 million in community benefits in 2025. These investments are aimed at addressing local health needs and improving access to health care services.

 

Community benefits can include charity care and uncompensated services, health screenings and immunizations, wellness programs, transportation assistance, workforce development and partnerships with schools and community organizations.

 

Beyond community health programming, Knoxville Hospital & Clinics is also a large employer in Knoxville. According to the newly released data, Knoxville Hospital & Clinics employed 607 people and paid approximately $35.7 million in salaries and wages in 2025.

 

Those payroll dollars circulate throughout the local economy as employees spend money on housing, food, retail, services, and other necessities, making the hospital's influence much broader than its direct health care operations.

Statewide, the economic impact that hospitals have is equally significant. The Iowa Hospital Association reports that hospitals across Iowa collectively provided more than $1.4 billion in community benefits, employed more than 146,000 people, and paid more than $10.4 billion in wages. Altogether, hospital expenses accounted for more than $24.8 billion of Iowa’s gross domestic product.
