On April 20, 1972, William and Rosemarie (Leggio) Sager welcomed their youngest of
five, Ruth Ann Sager, into the world in Brooklyn, New York. Growing up, Ruth and her
family lived in Brooklyn and at the age of 12, Ruth was adopted. She always used to
say she moved around just like a gypsy after that.
Ruth went on to become a CNA in Centerville, Iowa for 25 years. She loved her job so
much, she advanced herself to become a Medical Billing and Coding Specialist. One of
her greatest accomplishments before her passing was graduation from the Ultimate
Medical Academy with a degree in Medical Billing and Coding.
In 2008, Ruth met the love of her life, Tommy Barton. The two were wedded on January
13, 2017. For the last several years, the two shared a relationship based purely on love
and happiness.
One of Ruth’s favorite hobbies was cooking. She had an unforgettable Tator-tot
casserole, and you could never go wrong with the liver and onions she would make.
Another one of her favorite hobbies was fishing at the Rathbun Spillway. She was very
outgoing and never knew a stranger. Her time spent with her family and especially her
grandchildren is what she valued most in her life.
Ruth sadly passed away on August 22, 2026. She leaves behind her husband, Tommy;
her children: Thomas (Samantha) Sager, Dakota (Matt) Guerrero and Tommy Barton Jr.;
seven grandchildren: Matthew, Dantae, Nevaeh, Bella, Cadance, Blaine and Scarlett;
siblings: Michael, Paula, Donna, and Dawn.
She is preceded by her parents, William and Rosemarie Sager.
