Loaded field for Dutch men's tennis team at home tournament

PELLA - The Central College men's tennis faced a plethora of stiff competition in hosting six talented programs for the Central Invitational Saturday.

Collegiate tennis players from Grinnell College, Cornell College, Missouri Baptist University, Missouri Valley University, Maharishi International University and Grand Grand View University made up a talented field of athletes Saturday. The squads played three flighted brackets of singles and doubles matches.

Central's top performer was Gavin Jablonski (senior, Marshalltown) who went 2-0 in B Flight singles against Cornell players. He first beat Drew Campbell 6-1, 6-3 and then Gavin Collyott 7-5, 6-0.

In the final match of the day to finish, freshman Joseph Wright (Sergeant Bluff, Sergeant Bluff-Luton HS) won 2-4, 4-0, 11-9 against Grand View's Jonthan Hill in B Flight singles.

Freshman Connery Varsa (Nevada) also won 6-2, 6-0 against Kaleb Smarr of Missouri Valley in the C Flight.

Central has its first dual of the season next Saturday, hosting Morningside University at 2 p.m.
