Press Release: Train Derailment

At approximately 4:30 pm Thursday October 1 st , a BNSF train was traveling
westbound in Marion County north of Pleasantville when the train derailed near the
crossing at Geneva Dr. Approximately 25 cars of the 57 of the train derailed. There
were no injuries from the derailment, and the cars contained no hazardous materials.
Geneva Drive between Hwy 5 and 40th Avenue will be closed to traffic while BNSF
crews clean up the derailment. The public is asked to avoid the area and not to
attempt to approach the site. BNSF is investigating to determine the cause of the
derailment.
The Marion County Sheriff’s Office, Pleasantville Emergency Services Department,
Iowa State Patrol, Marion County Road Department, Pleasantville Police
Department, and Marion County Emergency Management all responded and
assisted in the incident.
