Dubuque eliminates Central women's soccer team

DUBUQUE - Unable to find a goal for just the second time this season, the Central College women's soccer team lost 1-0 to the University of Dubuque in Wednesday's American Rivers Conference tournament semifinals.

Central closes out the season with a 13-3-2 record.

"Tonight was a tough ending to a great year on and off the pitch," coach Mike Kobylinski said. "Making the semifinals for the third year in a row for has put this program back on the map.

After a scoreless first half, Dubuque broke the seal with a goal in the 55th minute. Central's offense mustered one shot attempt in the first half but rallied with seven in the second half. The Dutch put four of those on frame but never found the equalizer.

The teams were both limited to two corner kicks but Central's offensive attack was also foiled by getting caught offside five times.

Central's 13 wins was the third highest in program history. The Dutch also set the single-season scoring record as a team with 57 goals.

"We always want more but we also need to be reflective on all the good that happened this year," Kobylinski said.
